MY Creative Journey
Macrame found me in late 2021 when the chance purchase of an instruction book showed me the artistic outlet I had been searching for. Though macrame is an artform with ancient roots, it is equally fresh and contemporary. Using both my hands in harmony, it is a tactile, expressive medium where knots bloom into functional and decorative items as well as complex works of art.
To feed my love for macrame, I have devoured books and online courses. After a period of following patterns, I felt ready and itching to make work of my own design.
My first original pieces were inspired by my Chinese heritage. I combined elements of Chinese New Year visual symbols with the patterns and shapes of macrame. The result is a unique and original marriage of colour and design.
Since then, I have exhibited twice, first at The Churn Room, Dayboro, in August 2023 and then at Good Egg Gallery, Highvale, as a featured artist of the Samford and Surrounds Arts Trail in June 2024. I will be part of the Arts Trails again this June.
My work can be found at The Slab Hut, Samford Village and Good Egg Gallery, Highvale.
Yours, Samantha.
